A Life in Words and Music.
Karl's music can be best described as eclectic,
smoothly blending elements of Blues, Country and
World music. He combines organic rhythms with the
lyrical sensitivity of a poet. A central thread of faith
permeates Karl's work, which is in turn magical,
haunting and earthy.
Of Czech decent, Karl was born into a musical and poetic background. His Grandfather, Karel, was a violinist in Prague, whilst his mother, Mary, was a keen lover of poetry and verse.
Karl first picked up the guitar at the age of ten. He was influenced by Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Ravi Shankar, something that would remain with him in his later life.
The witings of Jalaludin Rumi and Kahil Gibran sowed the seeds for a foundation of faith which would become prevalent in his work and philosophies.
Karl has performed for the last twenty-five years at venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe, recording two studio albums Running Water and Strong Foundation, and one live album, Open Road, Live from the Greenbelt Festival. He also runs a teaching practice, an expansion of his life as a writer, guitarist and performer.
His current line up features long time friend and musical companion Sean South, on guitar and harmony vocal, and 'Easy' Bob Reid on harmonica and harmony vocal.
'There are many ways to kneel and kiss the ground'
